Chapter Meeting
July 8, 2008
Place: President Joe Gartner opened the meeting at 7:15 pm at Villari’s, the Mill, Restaurant, in Palmyra, NJ which is our standard meeting place. We meet on the second Tuesday of every other month at approximately 7:00 PM.
Attendees: Pam Lawler, Al & Janet Mastales, Mike Kurland, Steve Ingraham, Elinor Miller, George Wohlgemuth, Nick Rosa, Tom Kenny, Brian Gagnon, Joe Gartner, Dennis & Mary Harvey, Rich Beckwith
Individual Reports:
President: Joe Gartner
Joe greeted all present and thanked them for coming. He noted that the registration forms for the Tuckerton Boat Show were sent out and reported there are approximately 6 boats registered so far. He noted that pretty much everything is arranged for the Boat Show but did request those of us with donations to be in contact with him concerning how those donations will get to the Chapter booth. A number of members noted they had donations that they would be bringing. Joe also requested judges to volunteer for the show. Nick Rosa (tentative), Dennis Harvey, Brian Gagnon and others volunteered. Joe also noted that the entry form for the Boat Show is available online.
Vice President/Membership Chairman: Steve Ingraham.
Steve reiterated that he had made calls to all the nonrenewers for 2008. There was some disappointment that the results were not better but he did what he could do. He explained the situation concerning Ron and Susan Vuyosevich and the return of their check. Steve discussed the possibility of doing a supplementary “Welcome Aboard” brochure detailing the activities of the Philadelphia Chapter which could be given in conjunction with the “Welcome Aboard” brochure produced by the National. He also discussed the plaque for the restaurant (which is upcoming…when we order the awards for the Tuckerton Show). The plaque language has been agreed upon. It was reported by George Wohlgemuth that William Stevenson has renewed and is now (again) a Chapter member.
At this point, Joe Gartner requested a quick review of the Minutes of the last meeting (which he had distributed earlier) and made a request for approval. A motion was made by Brian Gagnon and seconded by Steve Ingraham.
Treasurer: George Wohlgemuth
George corrected an addition error in the Treasurer’s report and as a result reported that we had $6,045.53 in the treasury after all expenses had been paid. We are still anticipating an ad renewal (compliments of ad) from Chip Paradis and the renewal of Kim Wohlgemuth’s RYSY business (the other business has already renewed). George was also given checks totaling $135 for newsletter sales, a $35 check from Ellen and Brian Gagnon for a “compliments of” renewal and $35 in cash from Nick Rosa for a “compliments of” renewal. The reported Treasury balance above is before these funds are added.
Secretary/News Letter: Brian Gagnon
Brian shared the program that was given out at the St. Michael’s Boat Show, showed an example of the “stepped up” Scuttlebutt now being put out by the Chesapeake Bay Chapter and the “program guide” from the Boat Show a week and a half ago at Lake Hopatcong. It was reported that the Lake Hopatcong Chapter got $9500 in revenue with a program cost of $4500 for a $5,000 profit. To be able to do something like this at Philadelphia a “guardian angel” will have to be identified and take on this project. The Hopatcong one was, essentially, done by one man (selling the advertising) and two ladies (laying out the guide). A suggestion from the floor was made to sell 50/50 tickets to sell shirts, etc. at the show. President Joe Gartner expressed concern that a permit would be required to do this. This will be looked into.
Website: Bill Carley and Tom Kenny.
Bill is away for the summer but Tom Kenny was present. It was noted that there is a downloadable registration form for the Tuckerton Boat Show as well as a downloadable order form for our clothing. Elinor Miller again expressed interest in ordering clothing from the Club.
Advertising Chair: Mike Kurland
Mike reported that we had received a renewal from MAS Epoxies
but that we had not as yet received a renewal from Chip Paradis.
There are a number of ads that will be coming up for renewal after
the August newsletter that Mike will have to be working on.
Old Business: No report.
New Business:
The upcoming Tuckerton Boat Show was again discussed. Janet Mastales again reiterated her offer to help “stuff the bags” for the participants (along with Adrienne Hoffman.) The time and details of this activity are to be worked out in the near future.
Al Mastales expressed disappointment about the cover of the Tuckerton Boat Show entry form but Joe Gartner noted it was most likely done “in house” at the lowest possible cost.
Joe Gartner inquired about the preparations of Long Level show. Brian Gagnon assured him that he has been in regular contact with Dick Hickman and that the Chesapeake Bay Chapter appears to be “on board”. Joe requested that Brian complete the new entry form as soon as possible so that it can be placed online as soon as Bill Carley returns from the Thousand Islands.
There was some discussion about conducting the next meeting of the boat club at the Tuckerton Boat Show. Joe Gartner will advise.
Mary Harvey again offered to do the telephone calling to members to encourage their attendance at the Tuckerton Show. Brian Gagnon provided (the next day after the meeting) Mary with a current membership list with all of the telephone numbers (and email addresses) that we have. Thank you Mary for your efforts!
The motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 8:45 pm (by Steve Ingraham and seconded by Brian Gagnon).
