Chapter Meeting

November 11, 2008

Place:             President Joe Gartner opened the meeting at 7:00 pm at Villari’s, the Mill, Restaurant, in Palmyra, NJ which is our standard meeting place.  We meet on the second Tuesday of every other month at approximately 7:00 PM.

Attendees:     Rich Beckwith, Bill & Wanda Carley, Ellen & Brian Gagnon, Joe Gartner, Dennis & Mary Harvey, Steve Ingraham, Tom Kenny, Mike Kurland, Al & Janet Mastales, Nick Rosa, George Wohlgemuth

Individual Reports:

                        President: Joe Gartner

Joe greeted all present and thanked them for coming. After a review of last meetings minutes Joe moved to have the minutes accepted. A motion was made by Nick Rosa and seconded by Steve Ingraham to accept.

It was reported that there were 73 postcards sent out to the membership concerning elections for 2009, 25 were returned and the Chapter Officers were elected as presented. Therefore, the 2009 Officers are as follows:

President:  Joe Gartner

Vice- President:  Steve Ingraham

Treasurer:  George Wohlgemuth

Secretary:  Brian Gagnon

Advertising Chair: Mike Kurland

Website:  Bill Carley/Tom Kenny

Vice President/Membership Chairman: Steve Ingraham.

Steve gave a report about the photographs that were taken at the Long Level Show and showed several examples.  Plans are to market these photographs to the attendees. Brian Gagnon is to provide a list of registration forms to Joe Gartner (per agreement with Steve Ingraham).  Either a direct mail or an email campaign will be made to the people who attended soliciting their orders.  Steve will rebate profits made to the club.

Treasurer: George Wohlgemuth

George reported a balance in the Treasury of $6259.18 plus $30.00 in cash. Expenses since the last report were $2,967.35 with $2,710.00 in income. A detailed report was given to both Joe Gartner and Brian Gagnon.  A motion was made to approve the Treasurers report by Mike Kurland and seconded by Brian Gagnon.

Secretary’s/News Letter: Brian Gagnon

A report was made that we currently have 12 of the coaches jackets in stock as well as the new blue caps. The initial emailing sent to our members did not result in any orders although a “preorder” for one of the jackets in size large was taken at the meeting.

A decision was made that the remaining T-shirts that we have in stock will be given away on a first come/first serve basis at the Holiday party.  Our current stock, which was given to Joe Gartner for taking to the party, were 6 mediums, 4 larges and 15 extra-larges.

There was discussion concerning the “best preserved award” which was mentioned in the most recent Rudder Magazine.  The deadline for submission is December 1st.  Joe Gartner will be working on this.

Show dates for 2009 have been established and communications with all the magazines and publications has already happened. We should start to see our dates appear in publications in the near future.  We are among the first of the Clubs to get this done for next year.

A discussion was held concerning our website and the offer from Wendy Mersman to help in any way she can. It was suggested that Bill Carley be in touch with her by email or telephone and ask that she review our website and give any suggestions that she can. Hopefully a report on this will be coming up at the next meeting.

The meeting plaque (where we meet) was completed and given to Steve Ingraham for safe keeping.  This plaque will be put at the location of our regular meeting, as determined by Steve.  The decision was made and voted by the Club, that the Club would pay for this plaque (value of $25.00).  So, in effect, the Club is “paying itself” for the plaque as the cost of this plaque has already been covered in the Long Level Award costs.

It was reported that all of the awards for both Long Level and Wrightsville have been mailed out.

This includes the “complete plaques” that had to be mailed for those that were not in attendance (for example, Jack Raskin).

An invoice was presented in the amount of approximately $150.00 to George Wohlgemuth for the mailing costs associated with The Nautical Mile.  This is to be reimbursed to Brian Gagnon.

Website:        Bill Carley/Tom Kenny.

A number of changes need to be made to the website to get it up to date and accurate. These were given by Brian Gagnon to Bill Carley with a request that they be taken care of as soon as possible.

Advertising    Mike Kurland

Chair:           There are some ads expiring in the very near future that Mike

needs to relate to in terms of renewals.  These were discussed

with Mike and he will follow up with the applicable parties.

New Business:

The next major event coming up is the Holiday Party on December 7th at the home of Al & Janet Mastales. A “save the date” email has already been sent to all parties.  There was a request to Brian Gagnon that a postcard be created in the next week or so to all Club members.  Joe Gartner and Al & Janet Mastales will work on how to get the directions on the website as it is not practical to print the directions on the postcard (not enough room).  The text of the postcard will announce the Holiday Party, its location, time etc. with verbiage that will indicate that you should either get directions from Google, Yahoo maps, etc. or check on the website.

A suggestion was also made that future registration forms for both Long Level and Wrightsville have a space for an email address.  This may make it easier to communicate with attendees in the future.

It was also noted that we have 3 renewals (actually new members) for 2009.  These are Donna & Robert Pennington (who have attended may shows in the past), Ian Swarr, and Harry Darby Jr.

Letters of welcome have been sent to each of them along with a copy of The Nautical Mile with copies of the letters sent to the Club officers.

Regarding The Nautical Mile, it did go in the mail on Monday, November 10th.  Copies were circulated to the attendees so they could see what they would be getting in the next day or so.

There was a brief discussion concerning the article that appeared in The Rudder Magazine concerning Tuckerton Seaport which was written by Tim Hart. Both Joe Gartner and Dick Smith were mentioned in this article.

President Joe Gartner also updated everyone concerning the status of the 501C3 application and indicated that it may be complete by the end of this year.

A report was also made that the Chris Craft Silver Arrow shown at the Barnegat Bay Show (and for sale at that time) may have been acquired by a Lake Hopatcong Chapter member.

An email was sent to all of the memberships concerning the Art Show at the Corinthian Yacht Club at the request of John & Sewall Hornsey.  Hopefully many of our members can attend.

Unfortunately there was no response from John Pelham of Delran, New Jersey who George Wohlgemuth met at Dave and Busters back in August of this year.  Information had been sent to him concerning the Club.

Perhaps he will join at a later date.

Postcards have been sent to all people who’s boats appeared in the most recent addition of The Nautical Mile that are not members.

This edition covered the Clayton Show.

The form for the Chapter boat to go in the 2009 directory was given to Bill Carley by Joe Gartner with a request that Bill complete it and send it in.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:30 pm with a motion made by Brian Gagnon and seconded by Tom Kenny.
