RE:       Philadelphia Chapter “Health of the Chapter” Report for 2007

As requested by ACBS, please consider this a “Health of the Chapter” report for 2007.  As you know, a copy of our quarterly newsletter “The Nautical Mile” is regularly sent to Headquarters.  I would hope from this that it would be quite evident that the health of our Chapter is very robust.  But some of the more significant accomplishments in 2007 include:

1.       The holding of two ACBS judged boat shows, one in conjunction with the Tuckerton Seaport in Tuckerton, NJ and the other at Long Level Marina in Wrightsville, PA.  Approximately 35 boats and their owners attended the Tuckerton show with approximately 20 attending the show in Wrightsville.

2.       Our treasury balance is at approximately $4,200.00 with no expenses outstanding.  We are going into the “renewal period” with a strong reserve, and assuming we make our membership target of approximately 75 member families, we will be adding to that balance substantially.  It should be noted that during the past year, we invested over $2,000.00 in club logo clothing (approximately half of which has been sold), as well as investing some $750.00 in family boat building tents that were donated to the Tuckerton Seaport.

3.       We have planned our fourth annual holiday party, which is being done at no cost to Chapter members.  This year it will be held at President-Elect Joe Gartner’s (and wife Gloria’s) home in Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

4.       We have published four issues of The Nautical Mile which we have now “standardized” at 20 pages in length.  We won an award at the Lake Placid Show for “Best Runner Up” newsletter.  These newsletters are routinely sent to eight surrounding Chapters (in full color as we normally print) as well as additional black and white copies for distribution to their membership.  They are also shared with all applicable publications serving our hobby (Classic Boating, Vintage Boating Life, etc.).

5.       We continue to meet at our standard meeting place, Villari’s, The Mill in Palmyra, NJ on the second Tuesday of every other month.

6.       We have finalized our officers for 2008.  A list has already been provided to Headquarters.  Our president will be Joe Gartner, Vice President Steve Ingraham, Treasurer Joe Wohlgemuth and Secretary Brian Gagnon.

7.       At both the Tuckerton and Long Level shows, we did use the “Two Track” judging system as recommended by ACBS.

8.       Our Show dates for 2008 have been sent to all applicable publications (either electronically, or by snail mail).

If there is any additional information that you require, please let me know and I will be glad to provide it.

Sincerely,

Brian Gagnon
